PREVIEW: Lavrov to hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart in Moscow

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the ministers will discuss a comprehensive agenda covering key international and regional issues

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov is set to hold talks with Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Moscow.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the ministers will discuss a comprehensive agenda covering bilateral relations, preparations for upcoming high-level meetings, and key international and regional issues.

Russia and Vietnam maintain robust political dialogue, including at the highest levels. Vietnam holds the unique distinction among Southeast Asian nations of hosting Russian President Vladimir Putin six times - in 2001, 2006, 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2024. During his most recent visit, Putin met with Vietnam's top leadership: Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President To Lam, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The Russian leader also held talks with Vietnam's prime minister during the October 2024 BRICS Summit in Kazan.

The foreign ministers maintain regular contact, with Bui Thanh Son visiting Russia officially in September 2021 and Lavrov traveling to Vietnam in July 2022. Their diplomatic engagements have included meetings during the November 2022 East Asia Summit in Phnom Penh and ASEAN ministerial events in Jakarta in July 2023.
