ROSTOV-ON-DON, March 24. /TASS/. Ukraine’s new president, whose election is being shaped by the United States, risks completely undermining the country if he takes office, Viktor Vodolatsky, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration, and relations with compatriots, told TASS. He believes that Ukraine needs a leader capable of restoring its state sovereignty.
Earlier, media reports suggested that envoys from US President Donald Trump's administration were visiting Ukraine and engaging with opposition figures Yulia Timoshenko and Pyotr Poroshenko to lay the groundwork for the presidential election.
"If the US spends billions to promote [the future president of Ukraine] and promises to restore everything that Zelensky has destroyed, then the likelihood of electing a pro-US president certainly rises," Vodolatsky stated. "It would be a pro-American president, not a pro-Ukrainian one. This would represent a continuation of the same colonial scenario and further accelerate Ukraine's collapse."
Vodolatsky emphasized that the Ukrainian people, once Vladimir Zelensky is out of office, should make a choice free from external pressure in favor of a pro-Ukrainian leader. He argued that such a president would be able to defend the interests of Ukraine and its citizens while re-establishing sovereignty. However, he noted that the election of such a figure is currently only possible if the people of Ukraine unite against Nazism.
