Over 400 submunitions neutralized in Kursk region since Ukrainian invasion — government

A massive attack by the Ukrainian army on the Kursk region began in August 2024

KURSK, March 10. /TASS/. A combined pyrotechnic detachment of the Emergency Ministry has defused over 400 submunitions and 100 improvised explosive devices in the border areas of the Kursk region since the invasion of the Ukrainian army, the region’s acting first deputy governor and head of the regional government Alexander Chepik said.

"During the stay of the combined pyrotechnic detachment of the Russian Emergency in the Kursk region, 265 missions were carried out and over 400 submunitions were made safe. All this is in the settlements and on the plots of residential buildings and in the houses. Over 100 improvised explosive devices were neutralized and destroyed in the attics of residential buildings, on residential building sites, as well as near substations of gas cabinets," he said at a round table meeting titled The Current Problems of International Humanitarian Law in Conflict Situations.

Chepik also said that the Ukrainian army has been scattering explosive devices in populated areas using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and working with improvised explosive devices is complicated by magnetic contactless initiation systems. Ammunition is disguised as ordinary objects, and they pose a threat to the life and health of civilians.

A massive attack by the Ukrainian army on the Kursk region began in August 2024. A federal emergency regime is in effect in the region. Residents of the border areas are evacuated to safe areas. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Kiev has lost more than 65,000 troops since the start of hostilities in the Kursk region. The operation to neutralize the Ukrainian army continues.
