Ukraine loses over 26,000 troops in five-month battle for Dzerzhinsk

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on average, some 200 Ukrainian troops were either killed or wounded every day

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Russian forces caused the Ukrainian army to lose over 26,000 troops in the five-month battle for the city of Dzerzhinsk (known as Toretsk in Ukraine), the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"In order to hold Dzerzhinsk and other settlements of the Toretsk metropolitan area, the enemy amassed huge forces consisting of eight brigades. The total number of enemy troops exceeded 40,000. The forces included nationalist units, which are the most motivated and devoted to the Banderite regime, including the Azov Brigade (designated as terrorist and outlawed in Russia), as well as units of foreign mercenaries. Our troops inflicted huge casualties on the enemy in the five months of fighting for Dzerzhinsk. The Ukrainian armed forces lost over 70% of their troops, that is, more than 26,000 service members," the statement reads.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on average, some 200 Ukrainian troops were either killed or wounded every day. "[In addition], over 240 tanks and other armored vehicles, as well as more than 340 field artillery systems and mortars, were destroyed," the statement adds.
