MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. Children's Rights Commissioner for the Russian President Maria Lvova-Belova hoopes that an effort to bring Russian children from Syria will resume when the situation in the country stabilizes.
The effort has been under way since 2018, with almost 600 children brought from Syrian refugee camps to their relatives in Russia.
"Of course, the political situation is very difficult now. This effort has been suspended, but we managed to evacuate a group of 26 children just a while ago. As soon as the situation stabilizes, the effort will resume, I hope," the commissioner said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television.
So far, Russia has prepared the required packages of documents to evacuate 119 children, whose family connections to Russian citizens have been verified by DNA tests.
