Central African Republic counts on further grain aid from Russia — ambassador

"Supplies of Russian grain would contribute to solving the problem of food security in the Central African Republic," Alexander Bikantov noted

MOSCOW, March 26. /TASS/. The Central African Republic (CAR) needs food aid from Russia, Russian Ambassador to the CAR Alexander Bikantov said in an interview with TASS.

"In a personal conversation, CAR President Faustin-Archange Touadera said that he would like to continue the practice of receiving humanitarian food aid from Russia. CAR is one of the three poorest countries in the world," the diplomat said.

"Most of the population suffers from malnutrition. Supplies of Russian grain would contribute to solving the problem of food security in the Central African Republic," Bikantov added.

On March 15, the Russian Embassy in Bangui reported that the Central African Republic had received a shipment of Russian grain of 50,000 tons, and the country’s president attended the transfer ceremony.
