World majority understands the need to return to UN principles — Lavrov

The foreign minister also stressed that "the UN Charter contains all the principles that are necessary to ensure justice in international relations"

ANTALYA, March 2. /TASS/. Russia is convinced that the global majority understands the need to return to the principles of the UN, which Western countries are now flagrantly violating, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference following the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.

"We are still convinced that the world majority, which is increasing its weight in every sense - both in the world economy and in world politics - understands the need to return to the roots, to return to the principles of the UN, which were laid down by the founding fathers and which the West is now simply not only ignores, but also grossly violates," he said.

The foreign minister also stressed that "the UN Charter contains all the principles that are necessary to ensure justice in international relations."

"Simply those who, until recently, had a decisive weight in the world economy and in technological development, decided that in order to maintain their elusive dominance, they needed to manipulate international law. This, in my opinion, is the main problem of today. These manipulations must stop," Lavrov stressed.

In this regard, the Russian top diplomat pointed out the need to ensure in practice the equality of states, mutual respect, and an honest conversation aimed at balancing interests.

"The West is by no means ready for this yet," the minister concluded.
