Russian lawmakers call on Germany to probe into recording on attacks on Crimean Bridge

Vladimir Bulavin noted that the very fact of the leak of such a recording reveals "growing discord in German society about the foreign policy course toward Russia"

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. A senior Russian lawmaker has called on Germany’s authorities to thoroughly probe into audio recording featuring German military officials discussing plans of attacking the Crimean Bridge.

"We call on German authorities to immediately conduct a thorough investigation of this conversation and provide explanations to the world community. This is the only way to restore trust and confidence that international norms and principles will be respected," Vladimir Bulavin, head of the defense and security committee of Russia’s Federation Council (upper house of parliament), told TASS.

He noted that the very fact of the leak of such a recording reveals "growing discord in German society about the foreign policy course toward Russia." "It may mean that not all of Germany’s nationals support their official course of their government, especially concerning Russia," he said, adding that a considerable part of German society sees Russia as "a major economic and strategic partner rather than as an enemy."

Earlier, the RT broadcaster’s editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan reported that on the day when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz vowed that NATO was not participating and would not participate in the Ukrainian conflict, high-ranking German officers were discussing the possibility of attacking the Crimean Bridge in a way that would help avoid consequences for the German authorities. Simonyan said there was an audio recording of this conversation.
