MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Russian assets frozen by the West are unlikely to be returned, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with Russian media, including TASS.
"I believe the chances of returning this money are slim, it's a pity. But there is an element of confrontation, a part of the hybrid warfare that has been launched against us," he said.
Medvedev explained that Russia's response may vary. There are some solutions already, but they are still "fragmentary," the politician said.
He also added that confiscating frozen Russian assets would "break the legal world order," which is why the West is still afraid to touch them. The West is waging a hybrid war with Russia, but it has not officially gone to war with it, which puts it in a precarious position. "The West, as it says all the time, is not at war with us. Then on what basis would they want to take this away from us?" Medvedev asked.
However, Medvedev continued, Western countries "would abandon their principles, abandon everything" and seize Russian assets if they so desire. "We will survive it," he said.
