MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev has signed an agreement on cooperation in the cybersecurity sphere with his counterparts from Myanmar during his visit to the country, the press service of the Russian Security Council reported.
"The Russian and Burmese governments sign an agreement on the development of joint measures to counter cyber threats and cooperation in the field of international information security. From the Russian side, the agreement was signed by Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev," the statement said.
In particular, the document confirms that "state sovereignty and international norms and principles apply to the behavior of states in the framework of activities related to the use of information and communication technologies, as well as to the jurisdiction of states over the information infrastructure on their territory."
The statement also said that both states have the sovereign right to determine and implement state policy regarding the Internet, including ensuring its secure and stable functioning. The agreement defines the main areas of cooperation in the sphere of information security and measures to create conditions for such cooperation.
The consultations between the representatives of Russia and Myanmar directly addressed potential efforts to jointly counter threats in the cyber sphere. The sides expressed their concern about the risks of using IT to undermine the sovereignty and security of states, interfere in their internal affairs, violate the privacy of citizens, and destabilize the domestic political and socio-economic situation.
