US bio-military activities gain momentum in Asia-Pacific — Russian Defense Ministry

Alexander Fomin stressed that "the activities of Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy, which are members of NATO, contribute to the militarization of the Asia-Pacific Region and provoke an arms race"

JAKARTA, November 16. /TASS/. The North Atlantic Alliance is actively trying to deploy its forces and infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific Region, with the US biological-military activities gaining momentum in particular, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin has said.

"Recently, there have been active attempts to deploy NATO's potential in the Asia-Pacific Region. Under the pretext of 'indivisibility of the security of the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific region,' the Western countries are, in fact, deploying their forces and infrastructure there," Fomin said on Thursday at the 10th meeting of the ASEAN defense ministers and dialogue partners (ADMM Plus), which is underway in Jakarta.

He emphasized that "US biological-military activities are gaining momentum, with a whole network of laboratories deployed in a number of countries in the Asia-Pacific Region."

"Similar US laboratories in Ukraine functioned with the assistance of those European states which today seek to join the ASEAN Plus mechanisms," Fomin said.

"We note attempts by Washington and its allies to use the problem of climate change and emergencies to carry out so-called humanitarian interventions," he stated.

Fomin also stressed that "the activities of Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy, which are members of NATO, contribute to the militarization of the Asia-Pacific Region and provoke an arms race."

"These countries expand the presence of their naval and air forces and increase the frequency and scale of multilateral military exercises. During the maneuvers, deterrence and counteraction scenarios are practiced. In the meantime, there are no real military threats to the security of these European states," he stressed.
