MOSCOW, November 9. /TASS/. The Russian government is terminating its agreement with the Japanese government on cooperation to reduce Russia's nuclear arsenal.
"To terminate the agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Japan on Cooperation to Assist the Destruction of Nuclear Weapons Reduced in the Russian Federation and the establishment of the Committee on Cooperation to this end, signed in Tokyo on October 13, 1993," reads the order signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The document has been made public. The Russian Foreign Ministry was instructed to notify the Japanese side of the decision.
The aim of the agreement was to assist in the safe elimination of nuclear weapons that Moscow was to reduce under bilateral or multilateral treaties, as well as its own unilateral decisions. A special committee was set up for this purpose - within its framework Moscow and Tokyo identified priority areas for such cooperation, exchanged information and results of research, as well as developed specific cooperation programs.
