ABU DHABI, September 25. /TASS/. Relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are developing because of the decisions made by the two countries' presidents, while the task of parliamentarians is to ensure these decisions by law, the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said at a meeting with the President of the UAE Federal National Council Saqr Ghobash.
"For our part, we need <...> to do our best to legislate the decisions made by the presidents, as well as to contribute to the development of relations within the parliamentary framework," Volodin noted.
He emphasized that Russia and the UAE are strategic partners. Russian and UAE Presidents Vladimir Putin and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan have set a good foundation for bilateral interaction.
Ghobash, in turn, supported Volodin's opinion that it is important for the Russian and UAE parliaments to match the level of cooperation set by the countries' leaders. "I believe it is important [within the framework of parliamentary cooperation] to establish contacts between committees and commissions. They will meet, discuss the plan, the program, the issues on which we need to work more," the UAE parliament speaker added.
During the meeting, Volodin also invited UAE parliamentarians to visit Russia in January.
A State Duma delegation headed by Volodin arrived in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi on an official visit. The delegation included Deputy Chairman Alexander Babakov, heads of a number of Duma committees, including Industry and Trade - Vladimir Gutenev, Science and Higher Education - Sergey Kabyshev, Agrarian Issues - Vladimir Kashin, Budget and Taxes - Andrey Makarov, International Affairs - Leonid Slutsky, Tourism - Sangadji Tarbaev.
