Russia, Belarus to step up security cooperation — Putin

The Russian leader stressed that he fully supported extending some previous agreements with Belarus in this sphere

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. Moscow and Minsk intend to expand cooperation in the defense and military-technical sphere, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State on Thursday.

"Russia and Belarus are stepping up - and will continue doing so, as it was noted today - their cooperation in defense and security. They are expanding cooperation in the military-technical sphere. This certainly meets the fundamental interests of our countries and peoples. It is really important today, given the turbulent international situation," he said.

Putin drew attention to the fact that his Belarusian counterpart, Alexander Lukashenko, had raised the issue of extending some previous agreements.

"I fully and completely support this. For my part, I am asking our Security Council to work on everything that the President of Belarus has identified today as a priority in this area by," Putin added.
