West shirks democratic principles by trying to influence developing countries — Lavrov

"We support Sudan's fair approaches to the consideration of Sudanese issues in the UN Security Council, including the need to lift those restrictions that were introduced several years ago," the minister said

KHARTOUM, February 9. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said Western countries don’t believe in democracy, otherwise they would leave developing countries alone.

He made the statement at a joint news conference with the Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali al-Sadiq.

"That they (Western countries - TASS) gallop around the world trying to convince developing countries of the need to condemn the Russian Federation and undermine their relations with Russia speaks to just one thing: They don’t believe in any democracy, any equality of nations on the world stage. Otherwise, they would leave developing countries alone and respect their right to determine for themselves how they conduct themselves in global affairs," Lavrov said.

According to the minister, Moscow, for its part, holds the view that "the national dialogue should be developed primarily by the Sudanese themselves without outside interference, let alone attempts to give the Sudanese any prescriptions."

"We support Sudan's fair approaches to the consideration of Sudanese issues in the UN Security Council, including the need to lift those restrictions that were introduced several years ago," Lavrov said.
