West has few allies in its quest to impose will — Lavrov

As the Russian top diplomat said, "all of our interlocutors with whom we have held talks in recent years are unequivocally and firmly in favor of respect for international law in its universal dimension"

NOUAKCHOTT, February 8. /TASS/. The West does not have so many allies who share its ambition to impose its will on everyone in defiance of international law, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday at a press conference after talks with his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk.

The Russian top diplomat recalled that the administration of US President Joe Biden and the leaders of NATO countries have proclaimed their goal to prevent anyone, "be it Russia or China," from questioning the right of the West "to impose its will on everyone and everything exclusively in its interests, completely ignoring international law."

"I don't think that the West has many allies in this. On the contrary, all of our interlocutors with whom we have held talks in recent years are unequivocally and firmly in favor of respect for international law in its universal dimension, as it should be, above all respect for the principles of the UN Charter, beginning with the fundamental principle of the sovereign equality of states. The West prefers not to talk about this. We need to remind our Western colleagues of this more often," Lavrov said.
