US builds up capacities for spying on personal devices — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

Contrary to their own slogans about defending human rights, the US continues to build up global monitoring capabilities, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said

MOSCOW, January 28. /TASS/. The US continues to build up spying capabilities through personal communication devices, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov said in an interview with TASS.

"Contrary to their own slogans about defending human rights, the US continues to build up global monitoring capabilities. US intelligence services have been detected employing Pegasus and Graphite spyware to hack into personal communication devices and computers all across the world," he said.

According to Syromolotov, during the fourth session of the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes in Vienna, which concluded on January 20, the US and their partners attempted to sabotage the negotiation process in order to avoid additional obligations to provide electronic evidence of crimes.

"[The US] did everything possible to avoid accountability for the criminal activities of their special services and companies engaged in espionage, wiretapping, and identity theft," the diplomat added.
