Human rights activists ignore Russia’s messages over POW massacre — envoy

Gennady Gatilov stressed that when it comes to blaming and criticizing Russia, "they act much faster and their reaction follows in virtually no time"

MOSCOW, November 25. /TASS/. Russia has not yet received any response from international human rights organizations to its appeals in connection with the execution of Russian prisoners of war by Ukrainian soldiers, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Geneva Headquarters, Gennady Gatilov, said on Friday.

"We'll wait and see how they evaluate our appeals and our notes that we sent them. So far, we have not received any response," he said on the Rossiya-24 round-the-clock TV channel.

Gatilov recalled that recently Russia had sent out memos concerning about 20 separate cases of Ukraine’s ill-treatment of Russian prisoners of war.

"We have been told that they took note of the evidence. But, unfortunately, as is usually the case, they are in no hurry to react," he added.

Gatilov stressed that when it comes to blaming and criticizing Russia, "they act much faster and their reaction follows in virtually no time."

A video showing Ukrainian soldiers shooting Russian POWs who had surrendered and were lying on the ground appeared on the Internet on November 18. According to the Chairman of the presidential council for civil society and human rights, Valery Fadeev, the execution took place in the village of Makeevka, in the LPR. Fadeyev slammed the incident as a demonstrably defiant crime and vowed to demand an international investigation. The HRC will send out information about the massacre to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the human rights organization Amnesty International, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other organizations.
