Cuba, Russia dialogues hold merit amid Western sanctions — Cuban leader

Miguel Diza-Canel noted that he has arrived in Russia at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and added that he plans to attend an unveiling ceremony of a monument to Cuban revolutionary leader, Fidel Castro, in Moscow

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. It would be advantageous for Cuba and Russia to continue to hold dialogues in the current conditions amid Western sanctions, visiting Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on Monday at a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

The Cuban leader noted that his visit to Moscow is taking place "at a rather difficult time for both Russia and Cuba," when "imperialist countries keep on imposing sanctions on us." "And in the context of such challenges, it is always useful to exchange views, opinions, and ideas to see how to move forward in our bilateral relations and, naturally, to expand the great political dialogue, which unites our countries. The Russian people, like the Cuban people, are very creative and always find ways out of the most difficult situations," he said.

He noted that he is always glad to meet with Medvedev to continue discussing important topics, including cooperation between Cuba’s Communist Party and Russia’s ruling United Russia party.

Diza-Canel noted that he has arrived in Russia at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and added that he plans to attend an unveiling ceremony of a monument to Cuban revolutionary leader, Fidel Castro, in Moscow.
