MOSCOW, October 14. /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry has released information on total strategic offensive Russian and US arms as of September 1, 2022, as Moscow and Washington exchanged the data within the framework of the New START Treaty, according to the information published on the ministry’s website on Friday.
"The information on the aggregate numbers of strategic offensive arms for Russia and the United States is given on the basis of the notifications stipulated by the New START Treaty, which the parties exchanged in September 2022 in accordance with Item 2 of Section II in Part Four of the Protocol to the Treaty," the ministry said.
According to the document, Russia has 540 deployed intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), deployed submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM), and missiles on heavy bombers, while the United States has 659 such weapons. In addition, Russia has 1,549 warheads on deployed ICBMs, deployed SLBMs, and nuclear warheads on heavy bombers, and the US has 1,420, respectively. Russia has 759 deployed and non-deployed ICBM launchers, SLBM launchers and heavy bombers, whereas the US has 800 at its disposal.
The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the numbers of strategic offensive arms declared by the US do not include 41 B-52H heavy bombers, which the US designates as re-equipped, and nuclear warheads on them, 56 Trident II SLBM launchers, which the US designates as re-equipped, and four underground missile silos for training renamed as "training silos."
"Russia cannot verify whether those strategic offensive arms have been rendered unsuitable for the use of nuclear weapons on heavy bombers and SLBM, as stipulated by Item 3 of Section I in Part 3 of the Protocol to the Treaty, and also objects to arbitrary reclassification of the underground missile silos designated for training to the category of ‘training silos,’ which is not stipulated in the Treaty, so as not to add them to the count," the ministry said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry published statistics on the strategic offensive Russian and US arms back in May 2021. Then Russia had 517 deployed ICBM, SLBM and missiles on heavy bombers. The United States had 651. Russia had 1,456 warheads on deployed ICBM, SLBM, and heavy bombers. The United States had 1,357.
