Diplomat says US seeks to use sanctions to raise its share of Europe’s energy market

According to Gavrilov, EU’s supplies of military-technical assistance to Kiev harms the global economy and the EU

MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Konstantin Gavrilov, head of the Russian delegation at the Vienna talks on military security and arms control, has said in a recent speech that the US seeks to raise its share of energy supplies to Europe by forcing the EU to expand sanctions on Russia.

"By forcing its European allies to dial up the pressure of sanctions on Russia, the US administration seeks to raise its own share of the EU energy market at the detriment to the economy of its partners," he said, according to a copy of his speech that the Russian Foreign Ministry published on its website on Wednesday.

According to Gavrilov, EU’s supplies of military-technical assistance to Kiev harms the global economy and the EU.

"The EU shouldn’t turn a blind eye to the fact that supplies of military-technical assistance to Ukraine at the request of Washington is detrimental to both the global economy and that integration association itself, which is due to the need for Europe to increase budget spending on defense," he said.

The diplomat criticized assertions by OSCE countries that military assistance to Kiev is defensive.
