Russia doesn’t think that doors to resumption of dialogue with West are closed — Lavrov

According to Russian Foreign Minister, Russia will now judge about Europe’s intentions by its deeds

MOSCOW, May 29. /TASS/. Russia will now judge about Europe’s intentions by its deeds but doesn’t think that the doors to the resumption dialogue with the West are closed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with France TF1 television channel on Sunday.

"We don’t mean to say that the doors to the resumption of dialogue is closed. But we will judge about Europe’s intentions solely by practical actions. We have learnt the lesson. In this sense, the situation has changed as compared with the end of the Cold War," he said.

According to the Russian top diplomat, Russia now understands better what was happening after the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the former Soviet Union and where the "euphoria" in relations with the West stemmed from. "Back then there was much talks about universal human values, Europe’s shared future from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. These were lofty words. But as soon as it came to actual steps and translating those slogans into action, Europe demonstrated reluctance," he noted.
