DPR forces won’t enter Avdeyevka, will blockade city, says militia brass

MOSCOW, May 24. /TASS/. The Donetsk People’s Republic forces will not enter Avdeyevka, 13 kilometers north of Donetsk, but will blockade the city, deputy head of the republic’s militia Eduard Basurin said.

"We are not planning to enter Avdeyevka," he told the Russia 1 channel. "Once the city has been blockaded, we will see."

Ukraine’s forces have been shelling Donetsk and Yasinovataya from Avdeyevka’s coking plant, hoping that DPR troops will try to destroy their artillery crews and damage the plant, said Basurin.

An intensive offensive against Ukrainian troops has resumed near Avdeyevka and other cities, DPR Deputy Information Minister Daniil Beznosov said on May 23. The next day he informed that heavy fighting was underway near Avdeyevka, Gorlovka, Maryinka and Novomaryinka.
