Putin proposes to compose registry of challenges and threats for countries at UN level

The president underscored that the work on this registry may involve specialists from various countries

SOCHI, October 21. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to compose a registry of threats and challenged to individual states and their potential consequences for other states at the level of the UN during the Valdai forum Thursday.

"A global challenge is a challenge to everyone together and to every one separately. If everyone will see a concrete benefit of cooperation on countering such challenges, then it will undoubtedly increase the readiness for a real joint work. In order to stimulate such work, it would be a good idea to compose a some kind of a registry of challenges and threats to individual countries and their potential consequences for other states at the UN level," he said.

The president underscored that the work on this registry may involve specialists from various countries.

"We believe that such roadmap may motivate many states to look at global problems and assess what profit they may gain from cooperation," he said.

According to the president, the problem of international institutions is an obvious fact, their reforming is on the agenda.

"But the main international institution - the UN - remains a permanent value for everyone, at least today," he said.

"In the modern turbulent world, it is the UN that remains the carrier of that healthy conservatism in international relations that is so necessary for normalization of the situation," the head of state added.

Putin noted that the UN is a carrier of not only the rules, but of the very spirit of rulemaking based on the principles of equality and accounting of everyone’s opinion.

"It is our obligation to preserve this heritage as we reform this organization, but must not throw away the baby with the bathwater, as they say," the president noted.
