Israel may strike Iran — former top Austrian diplomat

Karin Kneissl added that what US President Donald Trump called a "twelve-day war" was actually "a kind of temporary ceasefire, partly due to the fact that the Israelis had problems"

MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. Israel may launch new strikes on Iran, Karin Kneissl, former Austrian foreign minister and head of the Geopolitical Observatory for Russia’s Key Issues (GORKI), a research center at St. Petersburg State University, told TASS in an interview.

"Absolutely. The Israelis themselves are saying this - it's no longer just our speculation. [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has said this repeatedly, and other members of the cabinet have said the same thing," she said in response to a question on the topic. "If Iran advances its research to the point where it can enrich uranium for military purposes, then, according to Netanyahu, if I remember the wording correctly, Israel will consider itself entitled to strike Iran again," Kneissl noted.

She added that what US President Donald Trump called a "twelve-day war" was actually "a kind of temporary ceasefire, partly due to the fact that the Israelis had problems."

In the early morning hours of June 13, Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Less than 24 hours later, Tehran retaliated. Nine days later, on the morning of June 22, US jets attacked Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, entering the conflict. The following evening, Tehran launched a missile strike on Al Udeid, the largest US military airbase in the region, located in Qatar. On June 24, US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a complete ceasefire.
