Pakistan’s free trade negotiations with EAEU to take place in January 2027 — envoy

According to Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, it will take roughly six months or more to finalize the project

MOSCOW, August 12. /TASS/. A new round of negotiations between Pakistan and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on a free trade zone agreement is expected to take place next January, Pakistani Ambassador to Moscow Faisal Niaz Tirmizi told a press conference.

"Pakistan is negotiating to join a free trade [zone] agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union. We expect the next round of negotiations to take place in January 2027. It will take us roughly six months or more to finalize the project. This is fundamental for us as we have historically maintained trade relations with Russia. If you look at a part of our culture, there are many elements we borrowed from Russia," he said.

"The Eurasian Economic Union is important," the diplomat said, adding that it will "help increase trade between the countries."

Tirmizi previously said in an interview with TASS that Islamabad would conclude a free trade deal with the Eurasian Economic Union, adding that the process could take from a few months to one or two years.
