HAIKOU, China, 9 May. /TASS/. Yachts in the resort city of Sanya on Hainan Island made over 4,400 trips to sea over the national Labor Day (also known as International Workers’ Day) holidays, which lasted from May 1 to 5 in China. That is a 13% increase compared to the same period last year, China News Service reported with reference to the local maritime affairs department.
According to the report, local business representatives confirmed that a growing number of people is showing interest in yachting in Sanya. Many visitors combine yachting with other types of tourism, such as parasailing (flying high above the sea with a parachute while being towed by a boat), fishing and diving.
Due to growing demand, the city is seeing rapid development of related industry chains, including design, construction, demonstration, sales and maintenance of vessels. The city is rapidly implementing the changes necessary for the successful formation of this economic segment.
At the same time, an increasing number of international yacht brands is entering the Sanya market. One of the platforms that contributed to this was the 5th China International Consumer Products Expo held in Haikou (the administrative center of Hainan Province) in the first half of April. Yacht design competitions, which attract specialists from around the world, also play an important role.
As the industry grows in Sanya, the business of servicing recreational boats is developing rapidly. According to experts, the city needs to repair more than 500 yachts every year. These include yachts built in China and those purchased in other countries such as Italy, Turkey and France.
Sanya plays a key role in the development of Chinese yachting. According to official data, more than 1,400 yachts were registered in the city in 2024, making about 128,000 voyages in 12 months and serving more than 900,000 tourists.
