Russian diplomat warns about foreign detention risks for Russians

Maria Zakharova noted that Russian Foreign Ministry published relevant recommendations on its website

MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. Spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has recalled the recommendations for Russian citizens about risks of potential arrests abroad amid the detention of Russian national Alexander Franchetti in the Czech Republic.

"Indeed, we warn our citizens that there are risks overseas linked to the fact that some states extend their national jurisdiction to the rest of the world," she told a regular briefing on Thursday. "We publish the relevant recommendations on the ministry website."

Russian citizen Alexander Franchetti was detained at Prague’s international airport last Sunday. According to media outlets, he was apprehended on an international arrest warrant issued by Ukraine over his active participation in Crimea’s reunification with Russia back in 2014.
