The damage after the shipwreck of two tankers in the Kerch Strait area will continue growing because of an underwater current in particular, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma committee for ecology, natural resources and environment protection Vyacheslav Festisov said at a press conference in TASS.
"From our point of view, [the damage] will grow. We are aware of an underwater current there, which may come up with many surprises," Fetisov said.
There is a need to continue monitoring and take into account the practical experience in emergency response, he added.
Two tankers had the shipwreck on December 15. Tankers carried about 9,200 metric tons of fuel oil. The oil products spill occurred in the Black Sea as a result of the incident.
