Ukrainian soldier sentenced to life in prison for shooting refugees in DPR

According to the investigation, the crime was committed in March 2022 on Karpinskogo street in Mariupol

DONETSK, December 12. /TASS/. A court in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who fired on two cars with refugees inside in Mariupol to life imprisonment, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office said.

"Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, the court sentenced the 22-year-old driver of the 36th separate brigade of marines of the Ukrainian Armed forces Dmitry Shalar to life imprisonment while serving his sentence in a maximum security prison," the press service reported.

According to the investigation, the crime was committed in March 2022 on Karpinskogo street in Mariupol. The convict fired on two civilian cars with refugees inside, acting in concert with his accomplices. Four people died from their wounds.

Shalar was found guilty under paragraphs "a", "g", "l" of part 2 of article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code (murder of two or more persons committed by an organized group, motivated by political or ideological hatred), part 1 of article 356 of the Russian Criminal Code (cruel treatment of civilians in the occupied territory).
