Gas explosion in Tula Region kills four

According to the Emergencies Ministry, information of a collapse of a residential building was received at 16:46

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. Four people have died when part of a residential five-story building in Yefremov in the Tula Region collapsed, seven have been rescued and one is still under the rubble, the press service of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry told TASS on Tuesday.

"As of now, seven people have been rescued, according to preliminary information, one individual remains under the rubble. Unfortunately, three people were injured, four people died," the press service said.

The three injured residents were taken to a local hospital.

According to the Emergencies Ministry, information of a collapse of a residential building was received at 16:46. Rescuers established on site that it was caused by a gas explosion. The emergency services told TASS that the explosion was triggered by faulty gas equipment.

"At this moment, we are conducting an emergency-and-rescue operation. We have engaged 12 units of equipment and 42 personnel, additional forces and means, consisting of 20 units and 100 people, are heading to the site of the accident," head of the Emergencies Ministry’s Main Directorate for the Tula Region Alexey Pavlov told the Rossiya-24 TV channel on Tuesday.

The press service of the regional investigative directorate of Russia’s Investigative Committee told TASS that a criminal case was opened over the gas explosion.
