Russia ranks as EU's third-largest gas supplier in first half of year, trailing Norway, US

According to calculations, total Russian gas supplies to the EU in January-June amounted to approximately 22.1 billion cubic meters

MOSCOW, July 3. /TASS/. Russia ranked as the European Union's third-largest gas supplier in the first half of the year, trailing only Norway and the United States, according to TASS calculations based on data from the Brussels-based think tank Bruegel.

According to the findings, total Russian gas supplies to the EU in January-June amounted to approximately 22.1 billion cubic meters (bcm).

This falls behind deliveries from Norway (50.3 bcm) and the US (43.9 bcm), but surpasses Algeria's exports of 20.5 bcm.

In the second quarter, EU nations imported 78.3 bcm of gas, down 4.4% year-on-year and a 4% decline compared to the first quarter, Bruegel data showed.

Overall, Europe's gas imports edged up 2% year-on-year in January-June 2026 to 159.9 bcm.

Earlier, TASS calculations based on data from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) showed that Russia’s first-half gas exports to Europe via the TurkStream pipeline rose 5% to 8.74 bcm. TurkStream remains the sole functioning route for Russian pipeline gas to Europe following the halt of transit through Ukraine. The remainder of Russia's supplies arrived as liquefied natural gas (LNG), totaling around 13.4 bcm in the January-June period.
