Grain consumption to reach new highs in 2025 — FAO consultant

Grain carryover stocks will lose more than 2% to 866 mln metric tons

BELOKURIKHA, February 28. /TASS/. Global consumption of grain crops will hit a record-high figure of 2.869 bln metric tons this year, Consultant of the FAO Liaison Office for Russia Igor Shpakov said at the 18th Grain Conference.

"As regards global consumption, it will reach a record high level of 2.869 bln metric tons," the expert said. Wheat consumption will stay flat because the decline in feed grain consumption will be offset by an increase in human demand, he added.

Grain carryover stocks will lose more than 2% to 866 mln metric tons. Global grain prices are not expected to rise, Shpakov stressed. The global grain trade will fall by 5.6% to 484.5 mln metric tons in 2025, with feed grain to see the highest contraction.
