Top Hungarian diplomat points to EU’s attempts to sanction Russia’s atomic energy giant

Peter Szijjarto also posted a photo of himself during the call with Likhachev but provided no details of their conversation

BUDAPEST, February 27. /TASS/. The European Union continues efforts to impose sanctions on Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom in order to impede Hungary’s Paks 2 Nuclear Power Plant project, but the facility will be built despite all challenges, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said following a phone call with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev.

"Brussels keeps trying to obstruct our energy cooperation with Russia. A couple of zealous EU countries keep demanding sanctions in the field of nuclear energy, while the Biden administration's last move was to impose sanctions on investment in the Paks 2 project. However, the construction of the new nuclear power plant is crucial for Hungary’s energy security, which is why work on the project continues, only requiring slightly more effort," the top Hungarian diplomat wrote on Facebook (prohibited in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which is designated as extremist).

Szijjarto also posted a photo of himself during the call with Likhachev but provided no details of their conversation.
