Russia intends to continue helping Transnistria with gas supplies — Novak

According to the Russian official, around 3 mln cubic meters of gas per day has been delivered to Transnistria since February 14

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. Russia has done a lot to help supply Transnistria with gas - since February 14, around 3 mln cubic meters of gas per day have been sent to the republic from the European market. Russia intends to continue supporting the region, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters.

"Russia has provided support so that gas can come from the European market. We will continue to monitor the situation together and also provide support," he said.

"We have done a lot of work together with our colleagues from Transnistria to ensure additional gas supplies from the European market. In fact, since February 14, gas has been delivered to Transnistria - around 3 mln cubic meters of gas per day - for the operation of industrial enterprises, budget institutions, hospitals, schools, heating homes, and, of course, generating electricity so that consumers in Transnistria have power in their homes," he added.

Novak recalled that gas supplies to Transnistria were stopped due to the position of Ukraine, which stopped the transit of Russian gas to Europe from January 1, 2025, which "essentially" led to a humanitarian catastrophe in the republic.

Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky said that gas for the unrecognized republic was purchased with a Russian loan. The deliveries are made by Hungarian company MET Gas and Energy Marketing AG, which was to be paid by JNX General Trading LLC from Dubai.
