UK set to work out new energy sanctions against Russia — PM

The UK has placed more than 1,900 individuals and entities on an anti-Russian blacklist since Moscow launched its special military operation in February 2022

LONDON, February 3. /TASS/. The UK government will collaborate with EU countries to implement new energy sanctions against Russia, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated ahead of his participation in the informal EU summit in Brussels.

"I’m here to work with our European partners on keeping up the pressure, targeting the energy revenues and the companies supplying his missile factories to crush [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s war machine," Starmer said. "Because ultimately, alongside our military support, that is what will bring peace closer," the prime minister added.

The UK has placed more than 1,900 individuals and entities on an anti-Russian blacklist since Moscow launched its special military operation in February 2022. The list includes over 100 vessels used for transporting Russian energy resources.

The prime minister's office also pointed out that Starmer plans to discuss the strengthening of relations between the UK and the EU in security and defense. In particular, London is interested in enhancing cooperation on combating illegal immigration.
