Hainan scales up aircraft maintenance in Asian region — media

According to Haikou Daily, the aircraft maintenance base in Haikou is steadily increasing its volume of orders in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations area

HAIKOU /China/, June 9. /TASS/. South China's Hainan Province is increasing aircraft maintenance requests from the Asian region, Haikou Daily reported.

According to the newspaper, the aviation maintenance base in Haikou city (the administrative center of Hainan) is constantly increasing the volume of orders, including those from air carriers from the Republic of Korea, within the area of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Hainan repair center customers include Qatar Airways, which recently signed a contract to paint airliners for about 100 million yuan (more than $14 million).

Between January and April, this facility serviced 23 airplanes and four aircraft engines. The value of machines accepted by the base totaled 17.92 billion yuan (about $2.5 billion) and increased year-on-year than 10 times.

"The aircraft repair industry in Haikou will maintain a steady upward trend with the continuous expansion of its business scale," said the management committee of the special customs zone where the base is located.

According to official forecasts, the services provided by the site will reach 1.1 billion yuan (over $154 million) in 2024. It is expected that duty-free fueling, tax-free repair of aircraft and components, as well as other preferences of the Hainan Free Trade Port will significantly reduce costs and increase the competitiveness of the base, attract more customers, and accelerate the formation of a large-scale aviation cluster of the world level on the island.

The aircraft service station in the customs control area of Meilan International Airport in Haikou officially began operations in the second half of 2022. It provides a wide range of works including maintenance, scheduled overhaul, component repair and fuselage treatment.
