Sales of new cars in Russia down 62.1% in February to 41,851 units, says AEB

Year-to-date sales totaled 74,300 cars, down by 62.5% year-on-year, according to the association

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) in Russia fell by 62.1% in February 2023 year-on-year to 41,851 units, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said in a statement on Monday.

"In February 2023, sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia decreased by 62.1% compared to February 2022, or by 68,590 sold units, and amounted to 41,851 cars, according to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC)," the statement reads.

Year-to-date sales totaled 74,300 cars, down by 62.5% year-on-year, according to the association.

Avtovaz remained the leading brand in terms of sales in the reporting period, according to the AEB. Its sales edged up by 5% last month year-on-year to 23,400 units, and by 1% in January-February to 40,900 units.

Second was China’s auto manufacturer Haval, which sold 5,300 cars in Russia in February (up by 49%), and almost 10,000 units in January-February (up by 46%).

Geely was the third most-popular car brand in Russia in the reporting period, with sales totaling 4,000 units in February (up by 85%), and 7,500 cars in two month (up by 86%).
