Russian green energy share to outweigh EU in 15-20 years, envoy says

It was mentioned that even now, the energy balance is quite good

MOSCOW, February 17. /TASS/. Russia’s energy balance is currently better than in other countries and the nuclear power segment is growing, special envoy of the Russian President for environmental protection, ecology and transport Sergey Ivanov told TASS in an interview.

"Russia still firmly intends to follow the selected path. We are not going to renounce our commitments under the Paris Agreement. We will fulfill them. I believe the share of green energy in Russia will be greater than in the European Union in about 15-20 years," Ivanov said.

"Our energy balance is quite good even now, if we compare it with other countries of the world," the envoy said. "We have a large share of hydropower - absolutely clean from an environmental standpoint. The nuclear power sector is growing, although I would like it to be more, but it is close to 20%. In my opinion, about 40% would be preferable," he noted.
