German court authorizes disclosure of companies that completed Nord Stream 2

The Foundation for Climate and Environmental Protection Mecklenburg-Vorpommern said that these companies will probably have to face "public criticism and economic hardships" as a result of the decision

BERLIN, November 25. /TASS/. Germany’s Constitutional Court upheld a decision to disclose the names of all companies that participated in completing the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, the Foundation for Climate and Environmental Protection Mecklenburg-Vorpommern said in a statement.

"Regretfully, the Federal Constitutional Court did not support our objections [regarding the case]. This is very disappointing. Despite our firm stance, we now have to disclose the names of many companies from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. These companies were innocent and acted within the law. They trusted the regional parliament and government, who promised them protection from US sanctions," the foundation said.

The organization said that these companies will probably have to face "public criticism and economic hardships" as a result of the decision.

The lawsuit was filed earlier by German newspapers Bild and Welt. Both are part of the Axel Springer media holding.

The Foundation for Climate and Environmental Protection MV was established in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on January 19, 2021, with the participation of the Nord Stream 2 AG company. Among its declared goals are "promoting the continuation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project." A number of German politicians, mostly from The Greens party, criticized the organization, accusing the regional authorities of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern of promoting the interests of Moscow and Gazprom.
