BUCHAREST, November 11. /TASS/. The Romanian tax authorities blocked and confiscated more than €12.5 million from seven Russian companies operating in Romania after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine due to international sanctions. Chairman of the tax administration Lucian-Ovidiu Heius announced this at a press conference on Friday.
"From February 28, checks were carried out in order to identify persons or entities that are subject to international sanctions," he said as quoted by the Agerpres agency.
"We checked more than 2,400 individuals and legal entities, issued seven orders on various companies. Thus, only seven companies turned to be under these international sanctions and the administration fully applied them," he added.
Heius said that the amount of €10,099,200 was blocked, fines were imposed on those who did not comply with the decisions in accordance with the sanctions in the amount of 280,000 lei (€57,260). The amount of confiscated sums totaled 13,171,481 lei (€2 693,554). The official said that these figures are made public for the first time.
The head of the tax administration also informed that he had lifted sanctions from certain companies which were facing the closure. "There is a government decree and a European directive that allow, under certain conditions, to lift these sanctions and appoint a special administrator who controls all payments of the company and all its activities so that financial resources do not fall into the hands of Russian oligarchs from this list. At the same time it allows to ensure that the Romanian economy and the employees of the companies are not affected," Heiusz said.
