China's Sanya launches regular flights with Russia's Tomsk

Sanya Airport serves 39 international flights, providing direct communication with 33 cities

HAIKOU, November 1. /TASS/.  China's Sanya launched regular flights with Tomsk, the local department for tourism, culture, TV and sports reported. 

According to the authorities, the first plane with about 160 Russian passengers on board landed at Sanya International Airport on October 30 at 01:38 local time (20:38 Moscow time, Tuesday). Flights on Tuesdays will be carried out by NordStar, the flight in both directions takes about 13.5 hours.

The statement reads that Tomsk is very important for China both in terms of tourism, education, and business. "The opening of this flight will create more favorable conditions for student, entrepreneur and tourist trips," the department said.

Sanya authorities also noted that this route laid the foundation for the development of a new air corridor, which will increase the scope of the international Belt and Road initiative. "The flight will expand the geography of direct air links between Sanya and Russia, will open a new page in the development of economic and cultural relations between the two states," the report points out.

According to official statistics, Sanya Airport serves 39 international flights, providing direct communication with 33 cities, 21 of which connect China to Russian regions. In 2019 this South China resort launched a direct flight to Zhukovsky, Ufa and Kazan.
