MADRID, October 26. /TASS/. Russia has notified Spain that it had cancelled the earlier request to allow the Northern Fleet’s aircraft carrier battle group led by the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier to enter the port of Spain’s autonomous city of Ceuta, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation said in a statement received by the TASS office in Madrid on Wednesday.
"In September, Spain’s government granted permission for three Russian warships to enter the port of Ceuta between October 28 and November 2," the statement says. "Russia’s embassy in Madrid has just informed us that (Russia) had withdrawn its request for the warships to enter (Ceuta)."
Meanwhile, the Russian embassy has confirmed information to TASS.
The goal of the voyage is "to ensure naval presence in the important areas of the World Ocean."
The previous joint voyage to the North-East Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea of the Admiral Kuznetsov and Pyotr Velikiy was completed in the first half of 2014. The current long voyage is the eighth one for the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.
