US gives large funds to Delegation in Georgia for demonstrations — SVR

According to the SVR, the EU aims to "bring Georgia back to the path of democracy and European integration" at any cost

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. The EU Delegation in Tbilisi has been granted significant funds to support and coordinate demonstrations, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said.

"Attempts are being made to organize street protest activity in Georgia, which should become ‘evidence of the stability of pro-European views among ordinary Georgians.’ Large funds have been provided to the EU Embassy in Tbilisi to support and coordinate the demonstrations. Each of the participants in the anti-government protests is scheduled to be paid up to 120 euros per day of ‘work,’ the SVR said in a statement.

"In case of attempts by the Georgian authorities to block the EU channels for financing destabilizing actions, the option of delivering cash to Tbilisi from the EU embassies in Armenia is being worked out."

Return to European integration at any cost

According to the SVR, the EU aims to "bring Georgia back to the path of democracy and European integration" at any cost.

"The European bureaucracy from Brussels cannot allow the loss of this ‘key stronghold of Western influence in Transcaucasia,’" the report says.

"Taking into account the national-conservative turn taking place in the world, the EU has decided to collaborate with Georgian politicians and society to move from the already invalid liberal promises to political coercion."

According to the SVR, EU officials have been tasked with working more actively to unite the opposition Georgian parties United National Movement, Akhali, For Georgia, European Georgia, and Girchi - More Freedom. They are called upon to form a "united front" directed against the ruling Georgian Dream.

"A separate area of work is the formation of an anti-government sentiment among the most dynamic part of the local youth - bloggers, journalists, information technology specialists, as well as their colleagues from among the Russian relocators," the report says.

The Georgian and European media and non-governmental organizations controlled by Brussels are focused on manipulating this focus group with tales about "the advantages of cooperation with United Europe and the dead end of the pro-Russian policy vector chosen by the Georgian Dream," the SVR said. They noted that under the EU Georgian Youth for Europe program, young Georgians will be offered grants of up to 50,000 euros for implementation of "progressive projects," and the main criterion for allocating funds is loyalty to the West.

"It seems that not only Georgian citizens need to know about the shadow side of the European Union's activity in Transcaucasia, especially since they have already given a clear and decisive response to European encroachments on their country's sovereignty, it is important that the European taxpayers, whom Brussels continues to urge to tighten their belts and feed on fables about the global celebration of democracy, find out about this," the SVR said.
