Russia’s FSB foils Ukrainian intel plot to carry out terrorist attack in Zaporozhye Region

A PM pistol and ammunition were seized at the scene, while searches of the man’s place of residence turned up an improvised explosive device and a mobile phone he had used for maintaining secret communications with his handler from a Ukrainian intelligence agency

MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted preparations to carry out a terrorist attack in the Zaporozhye Region, which was being plotted on the instructions of Ukrainian intelligence agencies, the FSB said in a statement.

"The FSB has prevented preparations for a terrorist attack, which was being plotted by Ukrainian intelligence agencies in the city of Berdyansk, Zaporozhye Region, to be carried out by a recruited Russian national born in 1974," the statement reads.

"On the eve of Russia’s presidential election, the terrorist accomplice tried to take weapons out of a cache to carry out another terrorist attack. He gave armed resistance to attempts to detain him and was killed by return fire," the FSB noted.

A PM pistol and ammunition were seized at the scene, while searches of the man’s place of residence turned up an improvised explosive device and a mobile phone he had used for maintaining secret communications with his handler from a Ukrainian intelligence agency.

"It has been established that the agent of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate was involved in the October 2023 murder of a Russian Defense Ministry officer by using an improvised explosive device, as well as furnishing the enemy with the coordinates of the places of deployment of Russian troops and law enforcement officers," the FSB added.
