MOSCOW, June 22. /TASS/. Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that the Russian Navy and DPR authorities ensured a safe exit of the Azov Concord, a Turkish cargo ship, from the port of Mariupol.
"On June 21, Russian Navy, in cooperation with DPR port authorities, ensured the first safe exit of Turkish cargo ship, the Azov Concord, via the operational naval humanitarian corridor from the ship of Mariupol," Russian National Defense Control Center head Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev said Wednesday.
On Tuesday, TASS reported that the Azov Concord has become the first ship to leave the port of Mariupol and head towards Novorossiysk. According to ship captain Ivan Babenkov, the ship’s damage, inflicted by Ukrainian forces, was repaired, and a new crew has been recruited.
According to the Defense Ministry, talks between delegations of Russia and Turkey took place in Moscow today, with sides discussing safe exit of Turkish cargo ships and export of grain from Ukrainian ports, as well as approaches to ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea. The sides underscored the importance of the bilateral cooperation, which made it possible for the Azov Concord to leave Mariupol.
There are five ships remaining in the port of Mariupol: the Tsarevna (Bulgaria), the Azburg (the Dominican Republic), the Smarta (Liberia), the Blue Star (Panama), and the Lady Augusta (Jamaica). A total of 70 foreign ships for 16 states remain blocked in six ports: Kherson, Nikolayev, Chernomorsk, Ochakov, Odessa and Yuzhny.
