Kiev sees Trump’s idea of US control of Ukrainian nuke plants as unworkable — newspaper

According to the newspaper, Kiev and Washington "did not seem in sync about what plants were at issue"

NEW YORK, March 20. /TASS/. Ukrainian energy experts believe that US President Donald Trump’s idea of the United States taking control of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants is unworkable, the New York Times writes.

Some experts pointed out that nuclear facilities could not be privatized under Ukrainian law. Other experts were also skeptical about the plan but noted that the US could help improve management at the plants.

According to the newspaper, Kiev and Washington "did not seem in sync about what plants were at issue."

Washington stated following a phone call between Trump and Vladimir Zelensky that the US "could be very helpful in running those plants," while "American ownership of those plants would be the best protection for that infrastructure." US statements on the matter refer to several power plants, while Zelensky says that the only facility in question is the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, located in Russia’s Zaporozhye Region.
