South Carolina carries out US’ first execution by firing squad in 15 years — agency

Brad Sigmon, 67, was sentenced to death for killing his ex-girlfriend’s parents with a baseball bat

NEW YORK, March 8. /TASS/. A US prisoner has been executed by firing squad for the first time in 15 years, the Associated Press reported.

The execution was carried out in the state of South Carolina.

Brad Sigmon, 67, was sentenced to death for killing his ex-girlfriend’s parents with a baseball bat "in a botched plot to kidnap their daughter." Sigmon himself chose to die by firing squad, "which he saw as preferable to the electric chair or lethal injection," the news agency noted.

As many as three prisoners have been executed by this method in the US since 1977. All were in Utah, most recently in 2010.
