Europe fuels enmity with Russia, unwilling to recognize Ukraine's defeat — German expert

Alexander Rahr argues that Europe has undergone a significant transformation

BERLIN, March 7. /TASS/. Europe seeks to intensify its confrontation with Russia in response to changes in U.S. foreign policy, and it refuses to acknowledge what it perceives as Ukraine's defeat, viewing the country as "its own domain." This perspective was articulated by Alexander Rahr, a German political scientist and chairman of the Eurasian Society in Berlin.

"Europe aims to escalate its confrontation with Russia following the geopolitical shifts in Washington. Germany is contributing financial resources, France is integrating its nuclear capabilities into a shared framework, and Britain is infusing its historical imperial spirit into this collective effort," Rahr noted on his Telegram channel. He emphasized that Europe was deepening its antagonism toward Russia, determined not to recognize the defeat of Ukraine, which it considers its own domain.

Rahr argues that Europe has undergone a significant transformation. For the past 80 years, he asserts, the European Union was founded on the principles of "freedom," "democracy," "the rule of law," and "humanism."

"Now, Europe's identity is centered on a singular focus: the struggle against 'imperial Russia,'" he stated. He believes that Europe is evolving from being part of "the West" to becoming "the North." "Berlin, Paris, and London are forming a sort of 'triumvirate' for military opposition to Russia, China, and, can you believe it?, the United States. Berlin and Brussels are prepared to allocate up to 2 trillion euros for the military strength of this new 'North,'" Rahr added.

In the realm of global politics, he perceives the emergence of a "duumvirate" consisting of the United States and Russia. "The U.S. no longer views Russia as a threat in Europe; instead, it aims to prevent a global military alliance between Moscow and Beijing," the political scientist concluded.

On March 6, the EU summit adopted a final document outlining a plan for the militarization of Europe, aimed at establishing the EU's autonomous defensive capabilities. The European Council tasked the European Commission with identifying funding sources for the EU's military-industrial complex and supported the reorientation of the European Investment Bank toward financing military projects. Notably, while the resolution states that the forthcoming arms race in Europe will align with the objectives of the North Atlantic Alliance and will occur in cooperation with it, this document marks the first instance in decades of a European military-themed resolution that does not mention the United States.
