CAIRO, February 17. /TASS/. Al-Qassam Brigades, a Hamas armed wing, has confirmed that one of its field commanders, Muhammad Shaheen, was killed in Lebanon.
"One of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades commanders, Muhammad Shaheen, died after an Israeli air raid on the city of Saida in southern Lebanon on February 17," al-Qassam said on its Telegram channel, adding that the man held "high positions" in the group. No further details were given.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said earlier on Monday that its fighter jets "struck and eliminated the terrorist Muhammad Shaheen in the area of Sidon." According to the IDF, Shaheen "served as the head of Hamas’ Operations Department in Lebanon" and "was responsible throughout the war for various terror attacks, and rocket launchers aimed at Israeli civilians."
